About Me

Hello All, my name is Elizabeth and I am the owner and operator of Wandering Trail Tours. I am so excited to finally be getting this business up and running. It has been a dream of mine for the last eight years to be able to take people around this gorgeous island and give them a sampling of the amazing, award winning wines we have to offer here. Please take a moment and scroll down to see my journey. I hope to meet you all soon, as I think I will be having as much fun on these trips as you all will! Thank you for stopping by!

My Story

I spent the first 19 years of my life growing up in Portland, Oregon (back when it was a simple place to live). When I was 19, I decided that I wanted to leave Portland and travel the world, so I joined the Navy. Throughout my Navy career, I was lucky enough to live on both sides of the country as well as Australia. I was also able to visit countries all over the world. Although there were hard times involved, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend 20 years of my life getting to see things I never thought I would see as well as getting to become lifelong friends with people from all walks of life.

It was when I lived in Australia that I grew an appreciation for wine. To this day, I will say that some of the best wines I have ever had came from the land down under. I spent many days traveling down to the McLaren Vale region of Australia, near Melbourne in the south of Australia to do wine tasting tours. It is a time of my life I will never forget

Once I left Australia, the Navy brought me to this beautiful spot in the Pacific North West, Whidbey Island. I knew the week I moved here that I wanted to live here the rest of my life. So I took a chance and bought a house without even seeing it, and a car, also without ever seeing it. Once I decided that I was going to retire from the Navy, I had to figure out what I wanted to do next. It didn't take long to find the wineries down on the south end of the island, but getting down there was a challenge for me because I didn't want to drive after I had been drinking, and I could never seem to find anyone who wanted to drive me down there. Hence I came up with the idea to start a wine tour company. It would conjoin all of my passions; my love for wine, Whidbey Island, and my passion for serving people. All I had to do then was pray that no one else would start a tour company, especially since I still had eight years left until I retired.

Finally in 2018, I was able to retire. I wanted to get a bit of business schooling under my belt before I jumped into a new business venture, so I went to school for a few years. Then COVID hit. It kind of paralyzed me for a bit, but here I am now. I have a bus, some money saved to start this business, and a heck of a lot of determination. I am so excited to finally be able to start my dream, and I cannot tell you how much the community has helped me along in my journey. I wouldn't be where I am without them (You all know who you are)! I know you are going to have a great time on my tour! I think I will have just as much fun as you all will. Cheers!
